Keeping On Keeping It Off

Tracy and Don Frevert of Columbia both had weight loss surgeries in 2012 and 2014, respectively, losing nearly 300 pounds combined. We wanted to find out what it was like for them to have the surgery, how they’ve been able to keep their weight off and what life is like after having bariatric surgery.

In 2008, Boone Hospital Center added a new technology to its repertoire, da Vinci, a robotic system that allows surgeons to perform surgeries with minute precision. These systems are operated through hand and foot controls that surgeons use to guide the slim robotic arms during procedures.

Gynecologic Oncologist Sara Crowder, MD Ranks In Top One Percent Worldwide
Gynecologic oncologist Sara Crowder, MD recently performed her 1,000th surgery using the da Vinci surgical system. For the past two years, Dr. Crowder has performed more of these types of surgeries than anyone else in Missouri and is in the top one percent worldwide. Boone Hospital Center acquired the da Vinci system, which offers 3D imaging and 360-degree movement of instruments, in 2011. It allows surgeries to be minimally invasive, leading to shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times.
Hospital Opens Three New Operating Rooms
Boone Hospital Center opened three new cardiovascular operating rooms, including a hybrid room equipped with an advanced medical imaging device that allows diagnostic imaging during complex surgical procedures.
